Introducing our new Pencil Spaces pricing plans

On September 1st, 2026, we’re launching new pricing plans for Pencil Spaces, which are available to preview here.

In response to your feedback, we’ve made this change to give you more flexibility when choosing the tools that you need, while also ensuring our pricing is more adaptable to the way you make money with Pencil Spaces. 

One size doesn’t fit every business

Pencil Spaces was designed to support every kind of education business, from a tutor who runs simple one-to-one lessons to large scale tutoring businesses with more advanced needs. However, not every Pencil Spaces user needs every feature.

Sometimes, all you need is a reliable virtual classroom with a whiteboard and video call. Other businesses need more advanced tools that automate workflows, support their teams, and get more out of every lesson.

We designed our new plans to account for those differences. Now, you can choose the plan that makes the most sense for your business, without having to pay for features you don’t need.

For instance, our Pro plan gives tutoring businesses all of the core tools they need to run successful online lessons, regardless of the scale. Meanwhile, our Expert and Master plans include more advanced features, like recordings, automations, and safeguarding tools, that help growing businesses save time and support better learning outcomes.

There’s no single “right” way to teach, which means there’s no single “right” way to use Pencil Spaces. So, there shouldn’t be a single pricing plan that everyone has to fit into.

Pricing that aligns with your success

Our older plans used to charge per participant. Although participant numbers can still affect the cost of larger classes, we found that this model didn’t accurately represent the value of 1:1 lessons. This was especially true for participants who enjoy using two devices in the same call, which could be reflected as an extra participant in their billing. 

So, we moved to a per session hour rate instead. We don’t believe that the cost of a 1:1 class should double simply because you like to join your Spaces from both an iPad and a laptop. The same goes for educators who host small group sessions. We don’t want tutors to have to think twice about using the teaching methods or setups that work best for their students because of the cost.

Just as importantly, we also wanted our pricing to better reflect how tutoring businesses actually grow. At Pencil Spaces, we believe the clearest measure of value is a session. As your business grows, you run more sessions and earn more. And when things are slower, like during breaks and holidays, it’s natural for your usage to decrease, too.

Our new pricing is even more reflective of those ebbs and flows. When you’re running more sessions, your usage and costs increase with that activity. And when your sessions slow down, like during breaks and holidays, your costs decrease, too.

This way, you can place your focus on your teaching and your students, without the worry of fixed costs that aren’t linked to the success of your business.

So what happens now?

If you’re happy with your current Pencil Spaces plan, you don’t need to do anything. Your existing plan will stay in place, and we’ll keep honoring what you’re currently paying.

You’ll also continue to receive our standard product and feature updates. Some new features, like AI safeguarding, incognito observation, and automatic session coaching, will only be available on our newer plans.
