How are minutes calculated on usage-based plans?

Billed usage in Pencil Spaces is calculated in participant-minutes, starting only when there are two or more participants in a Space. If a teacher or participant is alone in the Space, no usage is billed. Additionally, you are not charged for using multiple devices with the same account—for example, joining the Space on a desktop while annotating over PDF in the Space on an iPad. However, you cannot join the same call on two devices at the same time using the same account. You can learn more about our billing methodology here.

If you are using on certain Enterprise plans, we may bill you differently. Please contact Support to learn more about how billing is calculated for your institution.
How can I view my usage on my usage-based plan?

You can review your usage by going to Settings > Billing. You will need to be an Institution Admin to view your Institution Admin's billing. More details here.
Do I have to enter my credit card details to sign-up?

No - you can sign-up and try out Spaces for free without a credit card! You may need to enter credit card details to access additional trial features.
Will I be automatically charged when my trial ends?

No! If you don't feel like signing-up to one of our paid plans, we'll automatically downgrade you to our Free tier at the end of your trial period.

How do I change my plan?

If you are not an enterprise user, you can adjust your plan at any time from Settings > Billing. If you are on an Enterprise plan, please contact Support and we would be glad to assist you.
