In development

Music Player

Set the mood, calm the room.

Some students find silence or background noise hard to work in, and lessons start unsettled. The Music Player, in development, will let you play calm or focus music in the Space, and each student will be able to turn it down or off.

Your student can’t settle at the start of a lesson, and silence makes it worse. Soon you’ll play calm music in the Space that dips whenever someone speaks.

Independent practice online is either silent or noisy. Soon you’ll play focus music for the class, and each student can turn it down or off.

Quiet exercise time on video can feel awkward. Soon you’ll play focus music in the Space that dips whenever someone speaks.

Calm music through the room’s speakers helps your class settle and focus. Soon it will play from your Space, with you choosing what plays and how loud.

Play focus music from the Space during solo exercises, and it dips whenever someone speaks. In development.

If your child works better with calm music, their tutor will be able to play it in the lesson, and your child can turn it down or off.

The problem

Hard to settle and focus

Many students, especially those with special needs, learn better with the right sound around them. Silence or background noise makes it hard to settle and focus.

The usual way

Tutors play music from another app, which competes with the lesson and can’t be adjusted for each student.

How Pencil Spaces solves it

Many students, and especially students with special needs, learn better with the right sound around them: calm music to settle at the start, focus music during practice, a gentle cue for transitions. The Music Player will let tutors play calm or focus music in the Space and choose what plays and how loud, and let each student turn it down or off. The music will dip when someone speaks, so it never competes with the lesson. In development.

What changes

Calmer, more focused lessons, especially for students who struggle with silence or noise.

What we’re building

  • Calm and focus playlists, ready to play
  • Tutor controls what plays, and how loud
  • Each student can turn it down or off
  • Music dips when someone speaks

What it looks like

In practice

A tutor starts a lesson with calm music while her student settles, switches to focus music for practice and lowers the volume. When the student speaks, the music dips.

In a 1:1 lesson

Your student settles faster with calm music at the start, and it dips when you begin talking.

In a group class

Focus music plays during practice, and one student turns it off because he prefers silence.

In a virtual training

Focus music plays during a solo exercise, and dips when someone asks a question.

In your classroom

Calm music plays as the class comes in from recess, and the room settles.

In the training room

Focus music fills the room during the writing exercise, and dips when you speak.

At home

Your son works through his practice with focus music, and it quiets when his tutor speaks.

See it in a live Space.

We’ll walk you through it, shaped around how you teach.
