Incognito Observation
Drop in unseen, on any lesson.
How do you teach?
Most lessons are never observed, because walking in changes the lesson you came to see. Incognito Observation lets admins and, if you offer it, parents drop into any live lesson without interrupting it.
You can’t coach tutors on lessons you never see, and a visible observer changes how they teach. Enter any live lesson as an observer, unseen, from the Spaces list.
Classroom observations online are awkward when everyone can see the head of school join. Observe any live class incognito, without interrupting it.
Quality-checking trainers is hard when your presence changes the room. Drop into any live training as an observer, without being seen.
For tutoring or intervention lessons run in Spaces, administrators can observe any live lesson incognito, without the class knowing someone joined.
In the room, you’d just walk in. For workshop groups working in Spaces remotely, you can observe incognito without interrupting.
Wondering what really happens in your child’s lessons? If the program offers it, you can watch a live lesson incognito through the parent portal.
Free for 2 weeks on any paid plan. No credit card required.
What it solves
- No live view across every lesson
- Can’t see what happens in lessons

The problem
Too few lessons are ever observed
Observation is how programs coach teachers and keep children safe, but it rarely happens. When it does, a visible observer changes the lesson.
The usual way
Admins schedule announced observations a few times a year and see each teacher’s best lesson, not a typical one.
How Pencil Spaces solves it
Incognito observation is one capability with two audiences. Admins can observe any live lesson incognito for quality control: from the Spaces list, they choose Enter as observer on a live Space. Parents can also observe a lesson incognito through the parent portal, if you want to offer that.
What changes
You see lessons as they really are, without interrupting them.

What it looks like
In practice
From the Spaces list, an admin chooses Enter as observer on a live Space. She watches ten minutes of the lesson unseen, then leaves a coaching note for the tutor.
In a 1:1 lesson
You observe two lessons from each new tutor in their first month, incognito, and coach them on what you saw.
In a group class
You drop into a live class as an observer, see students drifting, and talk to the teacher about pacing afterward.
In a virtual training
You observe a new trainer’s first cohort incognito and give feedback before the second.
In your classroom
The intervention coordinator observes a tutor’s live lesson incognito and shares one specific tip afterward.
In the training room
You observe a remote team’s breakout work in their Space without them knowing you dropped in.
At home
Through the parent portal, you watch fifteen minutes of your son’s lesson incognito, and see how much he’s improved.
