Every lesson, in one place.

How do you teach?

Sessions view in Pencil Spaces lists every lesson from the Spaces you can see, grouped by day, with its length, hosts and participants. Filter by date, Space, attendee or recording, then open a lesson to watch it, read its summary, see who took part and review Session Insights. Admins see every lesson across their sites or institution.

A parent asks how Tuesday’s lesson went. Open Sessions and filter by your student’s name. The recording, the summary and who did the talking are on one page before you reply.

A student asks to rewatch Thursday’s class before the test. Find the class in Sessions, open its recording and share one link with everyone who was there.

Why it’s easier

Where did that lesson go?

On tools built for meetings, a lesson’s pieces scatter: the recording in one folder, attendance in a report, notes in someone’s email. In Pencil Spaces, every piece stays with the lesson, and every lesson is in one list.

The usual way

  • The recording sits wherever the person who pressed record saved it.
  • Attendance is a separate report, if there is one.
  • Finding last month’s lesson means remembering which link it was.
  • Notes and recaps end up in emails and documents.
  • Admins ask each teacher for links, one at a time.

With Sessions view

  • Every lesson from your Spaces in one list, grouped by day.
  • Filter by date, Space, attendee or lessons with a recording.
  • One page per lesson: recording, summary, analytics and insights.
  • Admins see every lesson their role covers, without asking anyone.
  • Recordings you made before Sessions view are already in it.

After the lesson

Questions you can answer in a minute.

“How did it go?”

Open the lesson and the summary, the recording and who spoke are together, before you answer a family, a learner or a colleague.

“Who was there?”

Join and leave times and time on the call for everyone, so an attendance question takes one click.

“Where did we leave off?”

Rewatch the end of the last lesson, board and all, before the next one starts.

“How did last week go?”

Filter by your student and open the lesson. The recording and summary are there when a parent asks.

“Who did most of the talking?”

Speaking time for you and your student shows whether they worked through the problems or mostly listened.

“Can I watch that again?”

Let your student watch the recording, copy the link and send it as the lesson ends.

“Who took part?”

Speaking time, raised hands, reactions, and mic and camera use for every student, so the quiet ones stand out.

“Can I rewatch class?”

Open the class, let everyone who was there watch the recording, and post one link.

“How did group 3 do?”

Filter the analytics by breakout room to see how each group took part.

With AI

Coaching and summaries, next to the recording.

Session Insights reviews each recorded lesson and adds a skills assessment, a timeline and teaching insights to its Insights tab. They’re usually ready about 30 minutes after a one-hour lesson ends. Hosts and institution admins can see them; students can’t.

AI summaries put a recap and action items in the Recording tab. When both are on, the post-lesson email carries them together.

With Session Insights on, each lesson’s level shows in the list, so a coach knows which lessons to open first.

Common questions

What is Sessions view in Pencil Spaces?

Sessions view is the Sessions tab on your Pencil Spaces homepage. It lists every lesson from the Spaces you can access, grouped by day, with each lesson’s length, hosts and participants. Open any lesson to see its recording, summary, participant analytics and Session Insights on one page. Recordings made before Sessions view are in it too.

Where do I find a lesson recording?

Select Sessions in the left-hand menu on your homepage. Filter by date, Space or attendee, or show only lessons with a recording. Then open the lesson and choose the Recording tab. Inside a Space, you can also open Apps and Tools, then Analytics & Recordings.

Who can see which lessons?

It depends on your role. Teachers and other members see lessons from the Spaces they can access. Site admins see lessons across their sites, and institution admins see lessons across the whole institution. Whether someone can watch a recording also depends on the access its host has set.

How do I share a lesson recording?

Open the lesson, go to the Recording tab and select Share. Under Recording Access, choose Admin, hosts, and participants, so everyone who was in the lesson can watch. Then select Copy link and send it. People without access to the recording can’t open it.

What do the participant analytics show?

For each person in the lesson: time in the Space, time on calls, speaking time, microphone and camera use, raised hands and reactions. The Overview tab also shows when each person joined and left. If the lesson used breakout rooms, you can filter the analytics by room.

When do Session Insights appear, and who sees them?

Usually about 30 minutes after a one-hour lesson ends: transcription takes around 25 minutes and the analysis a few more. Insights need a cloud recording and appear in the lesson’s Insights tab. Hosts and institution admins can see them. Other participants can’t, unless they hold a role that allows it.

Every lesson, there when you need it.
